A strong foundation of any impactful development initiative lies in a thorough understanding of the community’s needs, resources, aspirations, and challenges. Our Grassroot Level Survey & Assessment is a critical first step toward designing context-specific interventions that resonate with the lived realities of farmers, fishers, and rural entrepreneurs.
We employ participatory, inclusive, and evidence-based methodologies to conduct comprehensive assessments across villages, clusters, and farmer institutions. These surveys go beyond just data collection—they enable us to engage directly with community members, understand local dynamics, and map opportunities for meaningful intervention.
Our key objectives in conducting Grassroot Assessments include:
- Identifying Skill Gaps: Understanding the current knowledge base and practices of communities to tailor relevant capacity-building modules.
- Mapping Livelihood Patterns: Studying existing income sources, seasonal vulnerabilities, and local resource usage to recommend diversified and resilient livelihood models.
- Understanding Access & Gaps: Evaluating access to markets, government schemes, input services, credit, infrastructure, and extension support.
- Social and Institutional Profiling: Recording demographic data, institutional structures (like SHGs, cooperatives), and community leadership for program alignment.
- Behavioural Insights: Capturing behavioural patterns, preferences, and community readiness to adopt innovations or shift to sustainable practices.
Tools & Approaches
- Household-level surveys using structured formats
- Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) techniques including seasonal calendars, resource mapping, and problem ranking
- Key informant interviews with PRI members, local leaders, and service providers
- Focus group discussions with SHGs, farmer groups, and youth collectives
Outcome
The insights from these assessments directly feed into the design of customized training programs, IEC materials, input distribution strategies, and monitoring frameworks. They also help us align our efforts with donor priorities and ensure long-term sustainability through community ownership.
